Juan José Balzi

 
1933 He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  
   
1947/56 He attends the National Academy of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and obtains the degree of Teacher of Drawing and Technician in Artistic Advertisement.  
   
1956/58 Several group exhibitions. Prize "Salón de las Flores". He works as illustrator.  
   
1958/64 He lives in Brazil and works in the advertisement area. He marries with Marina Thiel Grillo.  
   
1964/66 He lives in Milan. He is granted Italian citizenship. He gets friendly with Carlo Carrá and other artists of the period. His daughter Silvia was born.
   
1966/68 He moves to Madrid, Spain.
   
1968 He moves to Barcelona, Spain. His son Mario was born.
   
1970 He illustrates the complete works of Baltasar Gracián for the Argos Vergara Publishing House.
   
1971 He takes part in the I Latin-American Fine Arts Congress held at the Sala Gaudi in Barcelona.
   
1972 He participates in the international exhibition which celebrates Picasso held in Vallauris, France.
   
1976 He is invited by the Gallery Gian Ferrari in Milan to participate in the "X Biennale di Campione d'Italia". He exhibits in the Gallery Ángel Boscán which belongs to the Caracas University.
   
1979 He illustrates the novels Facundo and Recuerdos de Província by Sarmiento and the complete works of José Martí. He is granted degree from the Accademia di Brera, Milan. The Italian Education Ministry recognizes his academic degrees.
   
1980 He participates in the first exhibition held by Museum of Contemporary Art in Nicaragua.
   
1981 He attends, as guest professor, the course of New Mural Techniques held at "Libera Università Europea" in Montefiori Conca, Italy.
   
1982 Together with the sculptor Vicente Mir he exhibits the 50 works related to the project Esculto-Pintura at the Gallery Fontana D'Or in Gerona, Catalunya. Exhibition at the Museum of the Contemporary Art of São Paulo.
   
1987 He participates in the exhibition New Spanish Expressionists, in New York. He moves back to São Paulo, Brazil.
   
1988 The São Paulo Creation Club holds a huge exhibition called Balzi:30 years of Illustration.
   
1989/96 He illustrates books for several Brazilian publishing houses.
   
1990 The Istituto Italiano di Cultura organizes a thorough retrospective of Balzi's work at the Brazilian Art Museum of the F.A.A.P. in Sãao Paulo.
   
1992 The Spanhish Embassy holds an exhibition of Balzi's work commemorating the 5th Centenary of the Discovery of America.
Ática publishing house publishes his course on Impressionism.
   
1993 Thorough exhibition held at the Santo André City Hall.
   
1994 He makes a series of workshops on painting and graffiti for homeless children sponsored by the Secretaria do Estado da Cultura de São Paulo.
   
1996 He makes the second series of workshops with teenagers who live in the outskirts of São Paulo (Luz neighborhood).
   
1997 Exhibition Balzi e os "Meninos de Arte" at the Paço Municipal de Sto. André.
   
1998 Exhibition Balzi e os "Meninos de Arte" at the State Museum of Tübingen, Germany.

2004 Teaches the course "Latin American Art" in the Iochpe Fundation.
   
2005 Hi participates in the "Transeuntes" exhibition at the Museum of
Contemporary Art of São Paulo.
